School Governors
School Governors represent the school and the local community. Governors represent different interested parties, for example, parents, staff and the local authority. Governors also appoint people directly; this is known as “co-option.” The Governing Body consists of 15 Governors including the Head Teacher.
The Governing Body has three main functions, (1) establish the strategic direction of the school, (2) ensuring accountability, and (3) ensuring financial probity. These functions involve scrutinising and approving the school improvement plan, monitoring performance against targets, setting the annual budget and monitoring spend against the plan. The Governing Body delegates some of its responsibilities to smaller committees who meet separately. The Governors Code of Conduct is available for review below.
Governors and Safeguarding
Our Governors play an important role in the leadership of the school and are responsible for ensuring that safeguarding arrangements are in place. They take part in safeguarding training, support with strategic planning and hold other school senior leaders to account.
Each year, they read and agree to work in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education. They receive updates about key changes and work with the Designated Senior Leads (for safeguarding) to ensure that policy and practice are up to date and ensure the highest possible standards of care and support for children at Moorside.
Our Safeguarding Governor is Fiona Abrahams.
All the scheduled meetings for the governing body can be found on our calendar.
